River Water Testing

River Corran and Mackerel Lake stream-June testing results.
The Laugharne Citizen Science team completed its June survey of the River Corran and Mackerel Lake stream on 11 June 2026, testing all nine monitoring sites across both watercourses. The results contain two significant findings: a sharp pH crash across the upper and mid Corran that mirrors what we recorded on the River Taf two days earlier, and an exceptional phosphate spike on the Mackerel Lake stream that requires urgent investigation. The pH Crash — What the Numbers Show T

River taf water testing results -June 26
River Taf Monitoring Update — June 2026 The Laugharne Citizen Science completed its latest monthly water quality survey across the River Taf catchment on 9 June 2026, testing at four sites from Login in the upper catchment down to Llandowror. The results present an interesting and scientifically significant picture — one that illustrates both the resilience of the river and the value of continuous, multi-point monitoring. The headline finding: a sharp drop in pH The most stri

River Taf Water testing May 2026
Laugharne Citizen Science tested the river on the 13th May 2026. The river level was lower than last month, there has been less rainfall in the last month. The only observations was a Kingfisher was seen at the Whitland testing spot and a trout was seen rising to flies below the road bridge in Whitland. PH levels are still elevated and have been reported to NRW and West Wales River Trust. Phosphate levels were higher at one testing location- probably as potatoes had been sown

River Taf Water testing results-April 26
Based on the data for the River Taf in April 2026, the situation is significantly more extreme than in the smaller tributaries. While the Nitrate levels are lower, the pH levels have reached a critical and potentially dangerous stage. Here is the breakdown of the April 26 results for the three main Taf sites (Llandowror, Whitland Church, and the Water Monitoring Station): 1. Critical pH Readings (The Primary Concern) This is the most alarming part of the Taf data. The pH has

April. Testing results for the River Corran and Mackerel Lake stream
Spring River Health Report (April 2026): Tracking the "Invisible" Surge In April 2026, the monthly monitoring has revealed a significant trend across the catchment. While our rivers appear visually clear and healthy, the chemical data reveals a hidden "nutrient surge" that is affecting the river’s ecology. The Post-January Loading Phase Under current Welsh regulations (CoAPR), the closed period for slurry spreading ended on January 15th. Since then, there have been three mont

River Taf Water Testing results
March results showed readings for Ammonia at all locations. Not critical but an indication that agricultural run off is occurring- not surprising given the rain we have had. Nitrate levels were up slightly on Feb 26 but down on Nov 25. There was a high reading for Phosphate at Llandowror, but again not critical. Most tests show raised levels apart from St Clears, although there was some eddying going on at that location. Dissolved Oxygen was good. PH is a slight concern two r

Water testing results for March 26
March saw a slight increase in Nitrate, PH and EC levels. This could be a result of the heavy rains we have had recently causing some agricultural run off. The PH levels are below danger level for aquatic life, but need to be monitored. Any further rise would need investigating, although they would have to remain elevated for many months to cause irreversible damage. Dissolved Oxygen levels are good- ideal for maintaining aquatic life in the river system. Ammonia was only pre

River Taf- February 2026 water testing results
Results of today's water collection and testing on the River Taf. Ammonia was up, phosphate slightly down and nitrate quite a bit down. The river was running pretty fast although using the water clarity meter it was clear.

River Corran and Mackerel lake Stream first year report.
Laugharne Citizen Science started testing the River Corran and Mackerel Lake stream in Nov 2024. The first year results have been analysed and a report produced which you can download via the link below. No major issues but the report covers this in some details. Thank you to all who took part and supported the group to enable us to do this important work . We are carrying on with the Corran and Mackerel lake stream and have just started testing the River Taf and the estuary.

Water testing results Nov 2025
Charts below show a rolling 12 months results and also the comparison of Nov 24 to Nov 25. Before we collected water there has been 2 weeks of heavy rain , and the high nitrate could be due to the amount of slurry spread on fields before the closed period in mid-October.
