River Taf Water Testing results
March results showed readings for Ammonia at all locations. Not critical but an indication that agricultural run off is occurring- not surprising given the rain we have had. Nitrate levels were up slightly on Feb 26 but down on Nov 25. There was a high reading for Phosphate at Llandowror, but again not critical. Most tests show raised levels apart from St Clears, although there was some eddying going on at that location. Dissolved Oxygen was good. PH is a slight concern two r

Water testing results for March 26
March saw a slight increase in Nitrate, PH and EC levels. This could be a result of the heavy rains we have had recently causing some agricultural run off. The PH levels are below danger level for aquatic life, but need to be monitored. Any further rise would need investigating, although they would have to remain elevated for many months to cause irreversible damage. Dissolved Oxygen levels are good- ideal for maintaining aquatic life in the river system. Ammonia was only pre

Using Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) as a garden spray.
Often dismissed as a stubborn, invasive weed, Horsetail ( Equisetum arvense ) is actually a "living fossil" that has survived for over 300 million years. For the organic gardener, it is a potent resource—a natural, mineral-rich tonic that acts as both a defensive shield and a growth stimulant. Using horsetail as a garden spray provides a range of benefits that chemical alternatives simply cannot match, primarily due to its unique chemical composition and ancient evolutionary

Garden Composting
Turning Waste into Wealth: The Vital Role of Garden Compost Bins In an era where sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity, one of the most powerful tools for environmental change is sitting quietly in the corner of many backyards: the compost bin. Often overlooked as just a receptacle for kitchen scraps and garden trimmings, the compost bin is actually a sophisticated biological engine. It transforms organic waste into "black gold," providing a circular solution t

Laugharne Wastewater Treatment Works Future Plans
Laugharne Wastewater Treatment Works Future Plans On the 4th November Andrew and I met with four members of the Dwr Cymru (DC) team looking at the tree felling, vegetation clearance and cliff face stabilisation plans above Laugharne Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW). This was a very productive meeting on a number of fronts. We learnt quite a lot and we believe that we have made some good contacts for the future too. In detail then: 1. By way of context, it’s important to unde
